Air conditioning used to be optional here. Then the summers changed. If yours is blowing warm, freezing up, or just humming, we can usually get it going the same day.
Common AC problems
- Blowing warm air. Often a bad capacitor or contactor in the outdoor unit. Cheap parts and a quick fix. Sometimes it's low refrigerant, which means there's a leak somewhere.
- Ice on the lines or the indoor coil. Usually not enough airflow (dirty filter, closed vents, a weak blower) or low refrigerant. Turn it off and let it thaw before we get there.
- Water around the furnace or air handler. A clogged condensate drain. Worth fixing before it soaks a floor or a ceiling.
- The outdoor unit won't start. A breaker, capacitor or contactor, or a thermostat problem.
- It runs all day and the house is still warm. The system could be undersized, the coil could be dirty, or attic ducts could be leaking the cool air before it reaches the rooms.

If an older AC needs a compressor, replacing it is usually the smarter spend, and it's worth pricing a heat pump while you're at it. It cools the same way and heats too.
Heat waves
When it hits 90 here, everyone calls at once. We put homes with babies, older folks and people with health problems first. Call in the morning if you can. And if your AC seemed iffy last year, have it looked at in May or June, before the first hot week.
Common questions
My AC uses R-22. Is that a problem?
It can be. R-22 hasn't been made in the U.S. since 2020, so recharging an older system is expensive. If yours needs refrigerant, we'll talk through whether a repair or a new system makes more sense.
Should my AC run all day on a hot day?
On a really hot afternoon, long run times are normal. If it never shuts off in mild weather, or the house never gets near the set temperature, something's off.
Can you add AC to a house with a furnace?
Usually, yes. Central AC or a heat pump can tie into the furnace and ducts you already have. No ducts? A ductless mini split is the usual answer.
