When to call right away
- No heat when it's cold out, especially with a baby, an older person or someone sick at home
- No cooling during a heat wave
- A burning or electrical smell that doesn't fade after the first few minutes
- A furnace that keeps shutting off and won't stay running
- Water pouring out of the furnace, air handler or an indoor unit
- A heat pump that's iced over solid and isn't thawing
If you smell gas, don't call us first. Get everyone outside, don't flip light switches or start a car in the garage, and call 911 and Puget Sound Energy once you're out. We can deal with the furnace after the gas side is handled.
A few things to check while you wait
These solve more calls than you'd think:
- The thermostat is set to Heat (or Cool) and a few degrees past the room temperature. Swap the batteries if it takes them.
- The furnace switch is on. It looks like a light switch, on the wall near the furnace or on its side.
- The breaker hasn't tripped.
- The front panel on the furnace is closed tight. There's a safety switch behind it, and if the panel's loose, nothing runs.
- The filter isn't packed with dust. A badly clogged filter can make a furnace overheat and shut itself off.
If none of that does it, leave it off and wait for us. Restarting a furnace over and over can make things worse.

A weekday service call runs $99–$179. Nights, weekends and holidays cost more, and we'll tell you the exact amount on the phone before anyone drives over. Once we know what's wrong, you get the repair price before we do the work.
How fast we can get there
In Everett, Mukilteo and Mill Creek we can usually be there within a few hours. Farther out, like Arlington or Monroe, it can take longer on a busy night. Calls pile up fast in a cold snap, so call when you first notice a problem instead of waiting to see if it fixes itself.
Common questions
Is no heat really an emergency?
If it's 35 degrees out and you've got kids at home, yes. If it's October and 55 degrees, it can probably wait for a regular weekday visit, which costs less. We'll help you decide on the phone.
Can you fix it on the first visit?
Usually. We carry the parts that fail most, like igniters, flame sensors, capacitors and some motors. If it needs something special, we'll get you running safely if we can and come back with the part.
Do you handle heat pumps and mini splits after hours too?
Yes. Same as furnaces.
