Furnace repair in Everett
Furnace won't light, blows cold air, or shuts off after a few minutes? Those are the calls we run most from October to April, and most of them get fixed on the first visit.
What usually goes wrong
Most furnace problems come down to a handful of parts:
- The igniter. It lights the burners. They crack with age, and when one goes, you get no heat at all.
- The flame sensor. It gets coated over time and the furnace decides the flame went out. You'll hear it light, run for a few seconds, then shut off. Often just a cleaning.
- The blower motor or its capacitor. The furnace heats, but nothing comes out of the vents, or the blower hums and won't spin.
- The inducer motor and pressure switch. A whine or a rattle at startup, then nothing.
- The limit switch. It trips when the furnace runs too hot, which very often traces back to a clogged filter.

Older furnaces
A lot of the furnaces we see in Everett are 20 years old or more, and some of the older houses still have oil furnaces. We'll keep them going as long as it makes sense. If yours is near the end and the repair is a big one, we'll say so and price a replacement next to the repair so you can compare. No pressure either way.
Common questions
Why does my furnace smell like it's burning?
If it's the first time you've run it this fall, that's dust burning off, and it should be gone within an hour. If it smells electrical, like hot plastic, or it doesn't go away, shut it off and call.
How long do furnaces last?
Usually 15 to 20 years with yearly service. We see plenty of older ones still running, but repairs get more frequent after that.
Is it safe to run a furnace that's making a new noise?
A squeal or a rattle usually isn't dangerous right away, but it's a part on its way out. A bang when the burners light is worth a call soon. That's often delayed ignition.
